Australia's most prominent footballers and WAGs are busy primping and preening ahead of tonight's Brownlow Medal ceremony in Melbourne.

It is a celebration that has become as much about fashion as it is about football and the Brownlow red-carpet style stakes are high.

While many WAGs aim to upstage their partners in eye-catching ensembles, Hannah Waters, the wife of Eagles player Beau Waters, would prefer not to be in the spotlight.

Attending the Brownlows for the first time, the health and safety manager hopes all of the attention will remain on her husband of four years.

"I'm excited that Beau has been nominated for an award and that's the reason we're going," Hannah told AAA.

"I'm just really happy to be going to support him.

"He would prefer to be out fishing or doing something else but it's exciting he's been nominated."

The pair, who are not accustomed to the art of red-carpet dressing, sought help from one of Claremont Quarter's resident stylists when it came time to choose suitably elegant outfits for the Brownlow - Des Eddy.

"Des is fantastic, he spent a whole Sunday walking around trying to find things for me," Hannah said.

"He's really fun and knows me really well and the stuff I do and don't like."

After perusing multiple gowns from a range of labels, Hannah eventually decided on a bright orange floor-length number by celebrated Australian designer Carla Zampatti, while Beau opted for a suit from Saba.

Though she's looking forward to wearing the stunning dress, Hannah admitted she was more excited about seeing her husband out of his regular attire.

"He spends 80 per cent of his time in training gear or lycra and the other 20 per cent in fishing clothes, so it's nice to see him in a suit," she said.
