$6m microbrewery underway in Northbridge

A $6 million microbrewery featuring a two-level bar and roof deck is set to open by the end of next year after construction began this month.

The Northbridge Brewing Company venture, which has been in the planning for four years, will be built on the corner of James and Lake streets and will open on to Northbridge Piazza.

Owners Michael Rasheed and Michael Keiller, who also own the neighbouring Mustang Bar, said the microbrewery would be the first of its kind in Northbridge and provide a relaxed alternative in the entertainment precinct.

The NBC will have two bar levels, a sky deck overlooking the city and a brewery producing 150,000 litres of hand-crafted beers each year.

Mr Rasheed, who also runs Universal Bar in Northbridge and the Left Bank in East Fremantle, said the brewery would offer breakfast, lunch and dinner every day and run tours of the site.

“Microbreweries provide a style of hospitality that West Australians really enjoy,” he said. “This type of dining and drinking in a relaxed but more upmarket environment is what people want and we are exploring other such opportunities.”

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the venue would enhance the piazza and add to the daytime appeal of Northbridge
