7News exclusive: Babies embrace new technology

The latest generation of iPhone and iPad users can't even talk.

As children embrace new technology at a younger age than ever before, iPhones and iPads are becoming the most popular pacifiers on the toy market, according to a 7News report.

Babies as young as 18 months have been found using parents' phones, but some apps can cost money and without guidance kids can rack up huge bills.

7News says an eight-year-old recently spent $1400 on Smurfs' Village app.

"In my opinion two years is too young for kids to be on iPhones, I've observed kids as young as 18 months scrolling through and finding Wiggles tunes." says Kimberley O'Brien, a child psychologist from the Quirky Kid Clinic.

Director of Kids First Children's Education, Sonja Walker says children will become exposed to apps one way or another, "Technology is part of the school curriculum it is part of our children's world." Walker says.
