Former One Nation senator injured in altercation outside Perth court

Former One Nation senator Rod Culleton has been caught up in a scuffle outside a Perth court as another man tried to hand him bankruptcy documents.

In 7 News vision, the WA Senator can be seen on the ground before getting to his feet, taking off his jacket and launching towards former Liberal MLC Anthony Fels.

It’s believed Mr Fels was trying to hand bankruptcy documents to Senator Culleton after a court appearance on Tuesday morning.

It’s understood the documents were on behalf of Frank Bertola, who Senator Culleton’s wife has a restraining order out against.

Mr Culleton can be seen confronting Mr Fels, before the Senator's wife and son intervene.

A spokesperson for the WA senator said Mr Culleton underwent X-rays at a Perth hospital after falling outside the Perth Magistrates Court.

He was later cleared of any bone damage, sustaining bruising in his fall.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the incident, saying there was an altercation around 10.45am and a 52-year-old man took himself to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the incident.

A witness claims Mr Culleton refused to take the documents and "fell heavily" outside a carpark.

The Senator has faced a tough couple of weeks, after being declared bankrupt in the Perth Federal Court last month.

The verdict has put Mr Culleton's senator position in jeopardy, but a 21-day stay on the order was granted.

"Twenty-one days it's been stayed. I will just go and set the primary order, the purported order, aside at the Supreme Court," he said outside court.

The bankruptcy decision came just days after Mr Culleton quit the One Nation party.
