Man's body found in car at 'rave' near Grafton

A man in his twenties has died at an unauthorised 'rave' on a remote property in northern New South Wales.

Police were called to the property near Grafton just after 2pm on Sunday, where Davey Gallagher's body was found in a car.

The victim is suspected to have suffered a drug overdose.

Authorities had estimated around 2,500 people attended the "rave" called the Omega Festival, a three day event featuring techno artists from around the world.

"It's concerning that the crime scene was 200 metres away from the main stage sound of this rave event and the patrons continued to dance around that location whilst we were dealing with somebody who'd died." said Detective Inspector Darren Jameson, from the Coffs Harbour Police.

Police were reportedly concerned about party drugs before it had even started and had tried to shut it down.

Organisers just moved it to another location.

Authorities say the event was being held on private property on Blacksmith Shop Road at Newton Boyd.

7News reports Davey's parents were too upset to speak today and they are now waiting for the results from an autopsy to find out how their son died.

Investigations into the man's death are continuing.

7 News tried to contact the festival organisers for comment.
