Owner cries for help as pitbulls viciously maul man who was trying to save his dog

WARNING, DISTRESSING VIDEO: Shocking footage shows two pitbulls viciously turn on their owner and another man, who had stepped in to save his little dog from being mauled to death.

The pitbull owner can be heard yelling "help me, please" as the dogs turned on the Jack Russell Terrier in the US.

California local, John Brady, has tearfully told of how he saw his six-year-old terrier, Josh, get attacked and how he jumped in to save him.

Brady, 52, is being hailed as a hero after the video showed him being savagely bitten by the 11-year-old pitbulls in an attempt to save his own pet in the attack on Santa Catalina Island.

Brady spoke to KLTA News, telling them he is thankful his dog is still alive.

"All I did is lift my dog off the ground and I was being chewed on instantly," he said.

"My dog, I just, thank god he's alive because I want to be with him now. He's my best friend in the world."

Brady said he had to use a pocket knife at one point to slash the pitbulls and save himself.

The owner of the pitbulls, an unidentified woman, was also filmed struggling to calm the dogs.

Eventually, Harbor Patrol officers pull the dogs off Brady and he was airlifted to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he remains in recovery.

His little dog Josh is also in recovery at a veterinarian.

A GoFundMe page was created and has already raised more than $8,000 to help with Josh's recovery.
