Truck destroyed by fire near Timber Creek, driver escapes unharmed

Vision has emerged of a truck on fire in a remote part of the Northern Territory outback.

The 18-second video shows a two-carriage road train engulfed in flames and thick black smoke billowing into the sky.

A spokeswoman for NT Police said the fire occurred on the Victoria Highway about halfway between Timber Creek and the Western Australian border.

The blaze was reported to authorities about 1:00pm on Thursday and a local fire emergency response group from Timber Creek travelled to the site.

The police spokeswoman said the truck fire also started a grassfire in the vicinity.

It is uncertain what caused the blaze, although the driver of the truck is believed to be unharmed and police are investigating.

Meanwhile in Pinelands, near Darwin, a road train carrying scrap metal rolled over and blocked a road.

There were no reports of any injuries from that incident either, police said.
