Perth teenager plunges to his death in rooftop fall

A man has plunged to his death in mysterious circumstances in Perth's entertainment district.

Ben Napier's body was found by his friends on Sunday night almost 16 hours after police believe he scaled a building after telling friends he was "going climbing".

A talented footballer, Mr Napier played for Curtin-Wesley and wanted to be a teacher.

He went out drinking with friends on Saturday night to celebrate a sporting win.

In the early hours of Sunday morning he told friends he was "going climbing".

He was last seen near Jack Rabbit Slim's on Aberdeen Street in Northbridge.

Police say Mr Napier scaled the building next door, alone and in the pouring rain, and fell off, hitting his head during the fall.

It was 16 hours before his body was found, hidden behind a gate.

His friends told Seven News they had started to panic after they failed to contact him yesterday.

They returned to the bar where they had last seen him and found his body in the alleyway.

His football club said even though he hadn't been there long, he had achieved more than many players do in a career.

"I've spoken to his father and I've told him, 'you should be very proud of your son'", Curtin Wesley Football Club president John Hobbs said.
