Cronulla Sharks chairman Damian Keogh stands down after drugs charges

Cronulla Sharks chairman Damian Keogh has been charged with cocaine possession during a police drug dog operation.

Keogh has been since been forced to stand down from his role at the the NRL club.

The NRL integrity unit has reportedly been informed.

The Sharks have confirmed Keogh's resignation in a statement.

"Our Club advises that Chairman Damian Keogh has stepped aside in his role to allow him to address allegations of possession of an illegal substance," a club spokesperson said.


"Given the challenging personal nature of this matter, Damian is not currently available for comment."

Police said they searched a 55-year-old man at a licensed premises on Bourke Street in Woolloomooloo about 7.50pm on Friday.

A small resealable bag containing a quantity of white powder believed to be cocaine was allegedly found during the search.

The man has been arrested and issued with a field court attendance notice for possessing a prohibited drug.

He is due to face Downing Centre Local Court on June 30.

Sharks CEO Lyall Gorman is expected to address the media at 12.30pm today.

The news comes a day after Sydney Roosters star Shaun Kenny-Dowall was been charged with drug possession, allegedly caught with half a gram of cocaine at a Sydney nightclub.
