Cameras catch Mehajer media, cabbie clash after casino arrest

Salim Mehajer has clashed with reporters after landing in trouble with law again – this time after an alleged assault of a taxi driver at a big night at Sydney’s Star Casino.

The former Auburn deputy mayor was all smiles as he walked out of the police station despite having spent hours behind bars.

After seven hours of questioning, he flashed a toothy grin as he emerged despite being charged with assaulting a taxi driver.

Mehajer is also accused of stealing an EFTPOS machine and a phone.

The police caught up with him at Darlinghurst more than an hour.

Ironically, later, he was kicked out of a different cab while trying to leave the police station.

“It’s my choice, I don’t want to drive him,” the taxi driver said.

But Mehajer would not budge.

“He wants you out of the cab,” a police officer said.

“Well, I’m not moving,” came Mehajer’s response.

Pretending to be on his phone, he grabbed items from reporters before police stepped in.

Tensions flared again when his own car arrived.

Police have requested copies of 7 News’ footage.

Mehajer has faced assault allegations, civil suits, accusations of corruption; a long list of dirty laundry for someone who aspired to be prime minister.

And 7 News can reveal another relationship that has police concerned, with Emad Sleiman, a convicted murderer whose parole was revoked over links to Sydney’s bloodiest gangland war.

Sleiman was shot himself a number of times in Auburn last week.
