Man killed at national skydiving event held in WA

A man has died after a skydiving accident at a national event held in WA.

The man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was killed when his parachute became entangled during a formation jump and he collided with another jumper.

The man had been competing in the 2017 Australian Skydiving Nationals held in York, almost 100km east of Perth, with more than 200 jumpers in attendance.

Paramedics were called to the Spencers Brook Road scene just after 5pm on Thursday.

Skydive Australia has confirmed the man was an experienced jumper.

"No other person was injured in the incident," a Skydive Australia spokesperson said.

The championships have been put on hold with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
