A Melbourne mum sparked a shop brawl when refund rage turned physical

A Melbourne mother claims she was abused and threatened by a Hoppers Crossing appliance store owner, when her refund requested was declined and a violent argument ensued.

The woman, who is too afraid to be identified, said she purchased a ‘faulty’ clothes dryer from Big Mama white goods factory outlet, which stopped working after two uses.

After she approached the factory outlet to resolve the issue, the woman said an argument with the store owners became heated.

The woman said the issue should have been easily resolved with a simple refund.

“He didn't want to listen to anything I had to say. It was meant to be a simple thing go in get my money back and walk away. It escalated a lot worse than it should have,” she said.

She said the store owner blamed a sock stuck in the dryer for the appliance not working, and yelled abuse at her.

“He didn't want to listen to anything i had to say, he wasn't interested.”

She said the store owner threatened her, telling her to ‘get out of the shop or I'll drag you out by your hair’.

The woman admitted the argument escalated when her friend’s partner, who was in the store at the time, intervened. Then the situation 'got out of control'.

She said that’s when the store owners picked up vacuum cleaner tubes and hit her on the back of the head and her shoulder.

Big Mama refused to comment, and today locked the doors and took their phone off the hook.

Four customers have been charged with assault and affray -- the case goes to court next month.
