Studies to continue
A Broome Aboriginal mental health worker will hit the books again to further her career after recently clinching her second tertiary qualification.
Mary Ozies is one of four WA Country Health Service students who graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science degree in Aboriginal mental health from Charles Sturt University.
She previously completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in indigenous community health.
The Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Service psychosocial rehabilitation officer said she was now keen to expand her knowledge by studying social work.
Despite facing challenges of distance education and juggling studies with her full time job, Ms Ozies said she was committed to gaining further academic qualifications.
"I'm thinking of going back next year to do a social work degree," she said.
"It's important to keep up your education."
The Djugun elder, who has worked as a senior Aboriginal mental health employee at KMHDS since 2007, said she initially became interested in working in the field while running a community-based juvenile bail facility at her family's community.
