Fashion funds kids' cause

Fashion isn't just about appearances for Perth designer Betty Tran.

Tran, who established her eponymous label two years ago, is passionate about using her design skills to help empower women and support worthy causes.

Tomorrow, the Cannington designer will showcase her latest collection, which debuted at New York Fashion Week in September, at the PMH Foundation's annual Melbourne Cup luncheon.

Funds raised through the event will go directly to help children cared for at Princess Margaret Hospital.

"It's been an amazing journey to be able to work with Princess Margaret Hospital," Tran told AAA.

"I feel that by working with them I can actually make a difference.

"I hope to help them raise a lot of money this year and I hope to support them in the future."

The 27-year-old designer will dress local mother Belinda Yoon for the event, whose daughter Amber has been cared for at Princess Margaret Hospital on and off since birth.

"I feel more beautiful now than I did on my wedding day," Yoon enthused while trying on couture frocks to wear to the function.

In addition to throwing her support behind the PMH Foundation, Tran recently helped make-over Perth woman Dana Vulin who was finally able to remove pressure bandages for the first time since suffering horrific burns over two years ago.

An emotional undertaking, Tran said working closely with the 28-year-old was one of the most rewarding experiences she's ever had.

"I found Dana to be extremely inspiring and it was unreal working with her," she said. "I was part of her journey for many months leading up to her taking off her pressure bandages. It's really important for me to be able to do something that's more than just superficial."

Tickets for the PMH Foundation's Melbourne Cup luncheon tomorrow at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre are on sale from Ticketek.
