The chests will be out for a cause tomorrow as men and women across the State bust it out for Purple Bra Day.

Geraldtonians will don their purple bras in support of the cause, which aims to raise funds for free cancer service provider, Breast Cancer Care WA.

As part of the day-long event, a special Purple Bra breakfast will be held in Geraldton to celebrate 10 years of purple-bra solidarity in the Mid West.

Breast Cancer Care WA and Purple Bra Day founder Ros Worthington said the Geraldton event would be even more special with a 10-year celebration in order.

“Over the years I have looked after so many people in the Mid West who have been diagnosed with breast cancer so I know the importance of the support to country men and women, ” she said.

“Geraldton is my home town and has played a really special part since the beginning.

“We are the only charity in Australia to provide practical and emotional support to people with breast cancer — and all of our services are free so any West Australian affected by the disease can access them.”

Purple Bra Day started 12 years ago and was launched in Geraldton two years later by Mrs Worthington and her friend Kath Millward from Soroptimist International.

Since then, the event has raked in thousands of dollars with last year’s state total $450,000.

All proceeds from the breakfast and events across WA go towards employing more breast cancer nurses, counsellors and providing services to people.
