Bellamy wanted to quit after McLean suspension: report
Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy was reportedly so disillusioned with the NRL’s handling of the Alex McKinnon-Jordan McLean affair that he tendered his resignation.
News Ltd is reporting Bellamy told the Storm’s owners he was quitting his post effectively immediately after McLean was handed a seven-week suspension for a tackle that put McKinnon in an induced coma.
But after considering his stance on the matter, Bellamy back flipped and decided to stay.
Bellamy has had a long-standing gripe with the NRL, which stems from the decision to strip the club of two premierships for salary cap breaches.
The 54-year-old is contracted until the end of the 2016, but News Ltd claims the NRL’s handling of the McKinnon-McLean issue was the last straw.
McLean was handed a seven-week suspension for the tackle, four of which were added on due to the seriousness of the injury suffered by McKinnon.
