Pitbull, J-Lo release official World Cup song. And it's awful

In what our friends at Yahoo! UK have described as "truly a ménage et trois of musical royalty", Pitbull has teamed up with Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte to produce the official song of the 2014 World Cup.

We Are One (Ole Ola) will be ringing in the ears of millions of football fans in Brazil this June and July, much to their misfortune.

The feedback has been less than complementary so far, with ESPN football pundit Janusz Michallik summing up our sentiments by tweeting: "Just heard that Pitbull J.Lo World Cup song. Wish I hadn't".

But despite Pitbull's trademark mumblings that open the song, it's J-Lo’s lyrical intervention that is undoubtedly the lowlight.

Here's a small sample of what she has to say:

Tonight watch the world unite, world unite, world unite
For the fight fight fight
One night, watch the world unite, two sides, one fight and a million nights

We're not exactly sure what that means, on any level, but it's important to remember the words of Bob Dylan at a time like this: don't criticise what you don't understand.

Despite all the song's shortcomings, we admit the chorus is very catchy and we agree with FIFA that the track "will add great rhythm to the footballing action" in Brazil.

We Are One is the opening track on the official World Cup album One Love, One Rhythm, which features tracks from Santana & Wyclef Jean, Ricky Martin and Shakira.

And there's even a song from Caribbean band Baha Men, who haven't done much of note since asking the world Who Let The Dogs Out? back in 2000.

Pitbull, J-Lo and Leitte have added their names to a prestigious list of artists to produce official and unofficial World Cup songs.

Shakira's 2010 World Cup song Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) was a worldwide smash, while Ricky Martin's 1998 tune The Cup of Life was the anthem of a memorable tournament.

Plácido Domingo, Anastacia, Il Divo and R. Kelly have also produced World Cup tracks over the years.
