Rangers legend Johnston: Miller should have stayed

Rangers legend Willie Johnston believes Kenny Miller should not have left the club for Turkey.

The 31-year old star striker departed Ibrox last month to link up with Super Lig club Bursaspor in a big-money deal which Johnston says was purely for money and not about the sporting side of the game.

"I don't know the ins and outs when it comes to the financial situation at Rangers," he told SunSport.

"I just look at a centre-forward who is scoring goals then walks out and goes to Turkey.

"I know it's about money, but he could have seen the season out and then gone if he thought that much about the club.

"A lot of them kiss the jersey and say they are playing for the jersey, but that's a load of s***.

"They play for the money, it's as simple as that.

"But if you want to win medals and can go to Barcelona or Real Madrid that's fair enough, but they can win medals at Rangers or Celtic as well.

"The players in my day played for the jersey - we had to because we didn't get paid!

"Don't get me wrong, I had a great time in football and loved every minute of it.

"But I've had my time and now I think the attitude of some of today's players stinks."
