Man charged after three-year-old Sydney girl shot dead
A Sydney man has been charged with firearm and AVO breach offences after a three-year-old child was shot dead inside a Lalor Park home on Sunday night.
Paramedics were called to the home in the city's west about 8pm on Sunday amid reports a child had been shot after finding a loaded weapon.
Detectives from Quakers Hill Local Area Command remain at the scene on Monday morning and are speaking with the family.
"When police arrived ... they found the child had suffered a fatal wound to her neck," NSW Police Quakers Hill Commander, Superintendent Paul Carrett told reporters.
"The death of a three-year-old child under any circumstances is tragic, it is tragic for the family and it is tragic for the police and other emergency services who attend these scenes."
Police have confirmed they are looking into whether she had gotten a hold of the gun and turned it on herself.
They would not reveal the type of gun, only saying one shot was fired.
Other children inside the property are currently in the hands of specialist police officers and will likely become key witnesses in the ongoing investigation.
