Wedding 'groper' sparks violent brawl

A man accused of groping several guests has allegedly sparked a brutal brawl at a wedding reception before being "bashed" by up to six men outside the Sydney venue on Saturday.

A day of celebrations for Mathew Carione and Rebecca Becvarovska quickly turned violent at Leichhardt’s Albert Palais Theatre.

The mother of the groom told News Corp that one guest had been repeatedly groping and pinching women on the bottom, including herself.

“It all stemmed from one guest who we now realise was groping a lot of women, myself included… the brawl started because they wanted him to be removed,” Zorica Carione said.

When several male wedding guests were informed of the man’s behaviour, they were quick to remonstrate, allegedly attacking the accused as he attempted to flee the venue.

Security guard Brad Allsopp, from a nearby hotel, attempted to intervene when he saw the violent altercation move out onto the street.

“They bashed him out the front of a business, they pretty much started laying into him,” Mr Allsopp said.

“I ran across to push them all away and get off him, there were five or six of the guys who had a hold of him; they were punching him and kicking him.”

The brawlers then allegedly turned on Mr Allsopp and another man who was head-butted and left with a bloodied, broken nose.

Inside the venue, the newlyweds attempted to move past the violence and carry on with their dream wedding.

Police have not made any other arrests in relation to the fight but are said to be reviewing CCTV from the venue.
