Woman holding pole struck by lightning during Queensland storm

A woman had a lucky escape after the pole she was holding was struck by lightning during a storm that swept across southeast Queensland.

The Gold Coast traffic controller was holding a stop-go sign in Helensvale on Wednesday afternoon when the storm hit.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

She was one of two people taken to hospital after sustaining injuries in the storm.

A teenaged body suffered hip and leg injuries when a tree fell on him at Forest Lake, in Brisbane's southwest.

Paramedics took the 13-year-old to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital for treatment.

A girl was also suffered suffer minor injuries in the same incident and was treated at the scene.

The storm also brought golf ball-size hail to the southern outskirts of Brisbane and smaller hailstones to the CBD.

At the height of the storms Energex was reporting almost 5,000 customers were without power in the Logan area.
