Perth woman finds maggots in Coles hot chicken

A Perth woman says she was shocked to find maggots inside the hot chicken she bought from a WA Coles supermarket.

Morgan Kahuroa Adams shared a video of the maggots crawling on the cooked chicken on the Coles Fails Facebook page, which was then on-shared to the official Coles site.

The young mother purchased the hot chicken from Coles Rockingham in Perth's south, but the video does not show what date it was purchased.

Coles was slammed by social media over the maggot video, with many pledging never to buy hot chicken from the supermarket giant again.

"Make sure you inspect it before you plate it," one person commented.

"Don't eat dead animals #vego," another said.

"That's why I pick Woolies," one commented.

But there was plenty of speculation over how the maggots would have survived in the oven.

"Maggots wouldn't survive the heat in the oven as they are over 60C ... Looks like she's left it in the car for a few days," one person said.

"It could have been sitting on her bench top for days," another said.

In among the comments, another woman Amanda Lavender came forward and said the same thing happened to her with a Coles chicken.

"I cut my chicken open, only to find worms in the centre cavity. I contacted Coles and the health department. They tested the chicken and the worms and the end result was that they are harmless meal worms which are apparently part of chicken feed," Ms Lavender posted.

"How they were still alive and in the chicken after cleaning and cooking is beyond me."

Coles is yet to comment on the video.
