Qantas pilot aborts Sydney landing after 'malfunction' alert

A Qantas pilot has safely landed a flight from Canberra despite a "malfunction" alert causing the first landing attempt to be aborted.

According to AirLive, QF 1474 was scheduled to land at Sydney Airport around 1.45pm on Thursday but the attempt to land was aborted shortly after the wheels were lowered.

A passenger onboard the Dash 8-300 said the aircraft accelerated away from the Sydney runway after a "malfunction" alert sounded in the cockpit.

The captain then advised passengers of the alert and emergency crews were scrambled on the ground as the pilot made his second landing attempt.

The pilot was able to safely land the plane with experts now working to find any fault with the plane.

A Qantas spokesperson told News Corp one of the aircraft tyres burst on landing, causing the smoke seen coming from the plane.

The spokesperson described the landing as "textbook", with all passengers safely disembarking from the plane after an almost 30-minute delay.

Meanwhile a British Airways A320 from Barcelona to London was forced to make an emergency landing in France after unconfirmed reports of an "unruly" passenger onboard.

According to Flight Alerts, flight BA473 was an hour late in departing Barcelona and was forced to land in Toulouse midway through the flight.

It is unclear how long passengers will be delayed in France before continuing on London Heathrow.
