Man charged with murder after woman's body found near Sydney wharf

A man has been charged with the murder of a woman in Sydney’s inner west.

The body of Indonesian national Miming Listiyani, 27, was found naked at Cabarita ferry wharf last night.

Police arrested Khanh Thanh Ly, 35, at the scene after police found him allegely naked standing over her body.

He has reportedly been linked to the Bali Nine drug importation syndicate.

Police removed several brown paper bags of evidence from the Lidcombe family home of 35-year-old on Friday morning, according to The Daily Telegraph.

A man believed to be Ly’s father reportedly told the paper ‘I don’t care’ when asked about whether he knew anything about the arrest.

Police believe the attack started in the exclusive Breakfast Point estate where blood was found on the street.

Ly, a school friend of executed Bali Nine ringleader Myuran Sukumaran, was jailed for seven years in 2007 after pleading guilty for conspiring to import drugs in 2004.

The man nicknamed ‘Buddha’ later gave evidence against others arrested in the syndicate.

Residents near Cabarita Park reported hearing screams and yelling before the discovery was made just after 11.30pm on Thursday.

Emergency services arrived at the wharf on Parramatta River to find a naked man standing over the body of a naked woman, which was floating in about 30 centimetres of water.

Paramedics performed CPR on the woman but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Superintendent Mark Jones said the man and woman are believed to be known to each other though the nature of their relationship is unclear.

He also said the 27-year-old woman was found with lacerations to her face.

"What I understand is the male was actually standing over the female just at the water's edge, in sort of about a foot deep of water," Jones said.

"We do not believe it's a random attack. We believe this pair may well have been known to each other and it's something we're looking at as we speak."

He said homicide detectives were looking in "great detail" at whether the woman may have been killed at another site and her body dumped in the river.

The 35-year-old was taken into custody at Burwood Police Station and is assisting police with questioning.

Police say the man was known to police, but was not able to confirm reports the man had previously served a lengthy prison sentence.

Part of a nearby Breakfast Point street has also been blocked off as police confirm a number of crime scenes throughout the inner-west and inner-city are being examined.

A car has been seized from the scene, while a number of items taken from other crime scenes will also be forensically examined.

Jones said the death of the "very nice young lady" was a tragedy.

Resident Bill Langton said he heard screams just after 11pm.

"Rather disturbing, last night heard what I thought were three screams, on the news this morning a woman found murdered in the river next to Breakfast point," he wrote on Facebook.

"Heard the screams just after 11, Police say she was killed between 11 and 11.30."

A woman in a nearby street told AAP she suspected the death could be drug related because Cabarita Park was known for drug deals.

"It's probably drugs," she said.

"It's pretty sad though, it's someone's daughter."
