Racers laugh off high speed jet boat crash

For those of you who have never had the (good?) luck to survive a high speed crash unscathed – this is the correct way to react.

There would no doubt have been a few things going through the heads of jet boat driver Anthony Giustozzi and his navigator Lachie Warner when they went on a high speed tumble at a race on the Gold Coast yesterday.

Chief amongst those thoughts would have been: “I hope we don’t die,” followed shortly by “Oh good, we’re not dead,” and a then a cursory limb inventory.

Then, right thinking people do what Giustozzi and Warner did, which is burst into laughter while trying to convince the panicked rescuers to give up on the idea of saving their lives and put their efforts into more useful activities such as getting the blasted machine moving again.

“All good boys, just flip us over,” one of the no-longer-airborne racers can be heard saying as rescuers say other things like: “get them out, get them out.”

“Just flip us over, boys, we’re sweet,” comes the jovial response from the muddied cockpit.

According to reports from the V8 Superboats meet, while Giustozzi and Warner were indeed “sweet”, after the crash, the same could not be said of their boat which will now need some attention before it gets back on track in the future.
