Man charged with manslaughter over fatal assault of Rokeby man

A man has been charged with manslaughter after a serious assault in the Hobart suburb of Rokeby resulted in the death of a local resident.

Luke David Pearson pleaded not guilty to unlawfully killing Jason Scott Picken.

Police alleged Mr Picken, 38, died after being assaulted by Pearson and a 16-year-old at Bray Court late on Friday night.

Pearson is accused of punching Mr Picken in the face and grabbing him by the throat, causing him to fall and hit his head.

Pearson was denied bail and will appear in court again in April.

The 16-year-old police alleged was also involved has been charged with criminal assault.

The teenager was released on bail and will front court at a later date.
