Vic prosecutors win 88% of cases: report

Victoria's Office of Public Prosecutions has won at least 88 per cent of serious crime cases it has prosecuted for the fourth year in a row.

The OPP's annual report, tabled in state parliament on Tuesday, revealed it achieved guilty outcomes in 88.5 per cent of the serious crimes it prosecuted in 2013-2014.

Solicitor for Public Prosecutions Craig Hyland said it was the fourth year in a row that overall guilty outcomes - including convictions at trial and guilty pleas - had been at 88 per cent or higher.

The report also reveals that of all guilty pleas, 83.1 per cent were achieved at or prior to the committal stage.

Proceeds of crime and illegally used assets worth $10.4 million were confiscated.

Trials were conducted in 20.8 per cent of the OPP's prosecutions, compared to a five-year average of 24.5 per cent.

Director of Public Prosecutions John Champion SC said the OPP had delivered strong prosecution outcomes while maintaining sound financial management.
