Fire shuts down part of Brisbane airport

A small fire caused by an electrical fault in a baggage area has temporarily shut down part of Brisbane airport.

Passengers and staff were evacuated from the southern end of the domestic terminal shortly after 1.30pm.

The fire in the Virgin part of the airport was contained within 20 minutes.

Brisbane Airport Corporation spokeswoman Leonie Vandeven said there was minimal disruption.

"Thankfully, it's not a busy time of the day," she told AAP.

"There was a small fire ... in the domestic terminal that was quickly contained.

"It wasn't in a public area."
