SA Govt pledges new high school for Adelaide CBD

The Weatherill Government has pledged a second high school for the Adelaide CBD, catering for 1000 students.

It is part of Labor’s plan to cope with a population expansion in the inner suburbs.

While the government has slated that school will open in 2019, the cost, how it will be funded and the exact location have not bee confirmed.

From 2015, students from re-zoned inner northern suburbs can attend an expanded Adelaide High School.

If and when the new school opens in 2019, the city zone will stretch even further, as far as Black Forest and Glandore.

But the Opposition claims it is a copy of the policy it announced in 2009.

Labor’s education plans will also mean teachers of the future would need higher qualifications, and the university campus at Magill would expand as a result.

“We want teaching to be the profession of choice, we want the best and brightest in our schools,” education minister Jennifer Rankine said.
