Bigger beds at new hospital building

A new state of the art building at the Lyell McEwin Hospital features extra-large beds to accommodate obese patients.

Health Minister Jack Snelling toured the new building this morning, where 24 of the 96 beds will come on line from Monday.

Eight of those have been purpose-built for obese patients.

“The beds have a larger capacity, we’ve got large chairs and also the bathroom is much bigger, so we’re able to shower the patients in a safe way,” divisional director Elaine Pretorius said.

The new building also has a heli-pad.
