Stabbings, shots fired in home invasion

Two men have been stabbed and up to five shots fired in a violent home invasion in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

Police say three men stormed the property at Kudla, south of Gawler, and tried to steal cannabis plants growing in the shed at about 9pm yesterday.

They were allegedly armed with a sawn-off shotgun, a handgun and a club-lock.

Three people were at home at the time - a mother, her teenage son, and the owner of the property.

The teenager says the intruders demanded drugs and guns.

“My mother was on the ground here with the bloke’s knees in her back and that’s when she got hit in the head with the butt of a gun and pointed in her back,” the teenager said.

“One of the blokes had a gun to my mother’s head and then lifted it up and shot through the window.”

Other bullets went through the front verandah, roof and decking.

The teenager says that is when the property owner armed himself with a knife and fought back.

“…got the knife out because it was his only defence and that’s when the blokes got stabbed and sliced,” the teenager told 7News.

Police say two of the intruders were injured and had left by the time they arrived, but presented at a local health centre shortly after with stab wounds.

Both were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are still looking for the third suspect and are yet to recover the weapons.

“I can assure you, police right throughout the state are looking for the offender and also the vehicle,” police chief inspector Alex Zimmermann said.

Police say the property owner is expected to face drug charges, while other charges will also be considered as part of the investigation.

He was bashed in the incident and is being treated in hospital.
