Euthanasia advocate admits inciting wife's death

A Melbourne man who was a member of controversial voluntary euthanasia lobby group Exit International will plead guilty to an involvement in his late wife's suicide.

Victor Rijn, 64, of South Yarra, will admit he incited his late wife to take her own life between April 1 and May 8 last year, the Melbourne Magistrates Court was told today.

But a second charge of aiding and abetting the suicide will be dropped by the prosecution, the court heard.

Exit International founder Dr Philip Nitschke said police raided his Melbourne office last August and seized details about Inger Rijn's suicide, which followed a serious illness.

Dr Nitschke said at the time Mr and Mrs Rijn were active members of Exit International, had attended meetings and collected information from the group.

Rijn will return to court on May 23.
