Murder of Queensland siblings case of 'mistaken identity'

A Queensland mother and her brother who were killed inside of their north Brisbane home were targeted in a horrific case of mistaken identity, detectives said.

April and Ian Bailey were found dead inside their fire-ravaged home at Deception Bay on May 28, 2004 and Danielle Lee Fels was last week arrested over the incident.

The pair were killed after an alleged group of drug dealers heard someone named “April” had received a large amount of drugs.

"April had come into possession of a large quantity of drugs. But it was not April Bailey - they've got the wrong April," Detective Inspector Damien Hansen told The Courier-Mail.

Fels' was arrested over the double homicide on Saturday, which was not long after an anonymous caller phoned police with information about the the deaths of the Bailey siblings.

However, Police believe three others were involved.

The caller was among more than 15 people who phoned with information and one person in particular is being urged to call investigators back because the caller had provided them with detailed information.

"It is obvious from the detail that this person's gone into that they're a close associate of those involved," Det Insp Hansen said.

"The information [they gave] is the events in the lead up, the planning that went into this, the reasons why and also who were involved."

April’s five-year-old daughter Violet was just four when she witnessed the deaths of her mother and uncle.

The now 17-year-old was discovered uninjured at the scene by police and wants justice for her family.

"I would appreciate so much for you to come forward, I would be very thankful for you to do it," Violet said in a plea.

"It means so much to me that so many people have already [come forward], not just to me but to my family."

It has been reported that there were three Triple-0 calls made after the house erupted into flames.

The first is believed to have captured Ian screaming and the second was reportedly from Violet, and in the background, two people can be heard arguing.

Violet, who has been cared for by her maternal grandparents Chuck and Rosemary Bailey, told the The Courier-Mail that she knows her mother and uncle were not bad people.

“To know this has nothing to do with them, that they were the victims, it puts them in a better light," Violet said.

“They’ve gone, whatever happened. But the fact they were gone, not because of something they did, gives you a really good feeling.”

Fels was remanded in custody and her case adjourned to December 20.
