AAMI alters recorder ad after flurry of complaints

After a flurry of complaints insurance provider AAMI has been forced to alter an advertisement that shows a young child playing the recorder.

Described by some people on Facebook as "the worst ad ever", the advertisement featured multiple high-pitched squeal sounds coming from a recorder played by a young girl sitting in her broken down car.

The advertisement did show the girl's parents waiting outside of the vehicle for the AAMI insurance staff member to arrive.

But the ad caused plenty of controversy, with some customers telling AAMI they would never buy insurance from the company again due to the noise offensive ad.

"Advertising 101: don't annoy/scare off/irritate/the people (sic) you want as loyal/future customers! tsk! tsk! tsk!," one post read.

"I would fire who ever passed that as they have no class," another read.

As a result, AAMI has now altered the ad with a more musical tune coming from the girl's recorder.

"Thank you for listening to feedback about that God awful recorder ad and making it somewhat bearable," a fan commented.

Even the girl's parents couldn't take the recorder.

While there was some support for the original ad, AAMI still issued an apology.

"Apologies for all the battered eardrums and howling dogs out there," the online apology read.

The new ad has been screening since Wednesday.

"We’ve listened to your feedback, so, rather than insisting you wait for what’s coming up we thought you’d like to know we’re airing this slightly different version."
