Cleveland kidnap victim Michelle Knight has released a song about her decade of captivity at the hands of Ariel Castro.

Ms Knight wrote the song, entitled 'Survivor', during her imprisonment and the track is now available online.

The 34-year-old told media music had always inspired her.

"Way before the house, music was always my thing. If I was being abused by somebody I loved and I didn't understand it, I would sit down and write my feelings about what was going on, how I felt about it," she said.

Ms Knight told Fox8 that she hopes her song inspires others who are facing adversity.

Her ordeal began in 2002, when Castro abducted her. The basement of his house would be the then 21-year-old’s home for the next ten years. Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus later joined her in captivity. The three women suffered rape and torture throughout their imprisonment.

Castro was jailed for life and committed suicide in prison.
