Women robbed by men claiming to be police officers

Two women have been forced off the road and robbed by two men who claimed they were police officers, South Australian police say.

The victims were driving along Grand Junction Rd at Blair Athol in Adelaide's inner north just after 2am when a silver sedan forced them to stop.

Police said the male passenger approached the women and produced a fake identification advising they were police officers.

According to police, the women became suspicious and drove off, only for the police impersonators to force their vehicle to stop in Gallipoli Drive at Regency Park.

The two men then smashed the passenger’s window and stole two handbags from inside the vehicle.

The two women were shaken, but not injured in the incident.

Police are forensically examining the vehicle and have advised motorists that on most occasions police officers wishing to stop a motorist on a public road use a red and blue flashing lights, and that officers not in uniform will always carry a photo identification.
