Alleged police impersonator in court

A 22-year-old Camillo man who allegedly impersonated a police officer to steal a car made his first court appearance today.

Garett Whitby allegedly used a white Holden Commodore to pull over a 28-year-old man driving a Mitsubishi Lancer in Thornlie on October 18.

Police claimed Mr Whitby and one other person pretended to be undercover police officers, seizing the man's vehicle for hooning.

Mr Whitby was taken into police custody on Wednesday after a police pursuit and search of a Huntingdale house.

Police claimed Mr Whitby failed to stop his white Commodore when called on to do so in Huntingdale on Wednesday.

He faces 11 charges, including impersonating a public officer, stealing a motor vehicle, failing to stop and causing detriment by fraud.

Mr Whitby was remanded in custody and is due to appear via videolink in Armadale Magistrates Court on November 8.
