Two dead after stabbing attack

The sister of a man fatally stabbed during an alleged neighbourhood feud has described him as a 'loving family man'.

Raymond McCombe was stabbed to death after he reacted to an alleged insult made to one of his daughter's over her late mother by a neighbour.

He leaves behind four children, the youngest just six months old, and his fiance.

Speaking to 7News today, the victim's sister, Rhonda Meyer, said: "Ray's always been there for his kids, always, he's a really, really good family man."

The tragedy has cost two of his girls their only parent.

"He's a great father, he's raised his two daughters, Laura and Jessie, since they were eight and nine after their mother died in tragic circumstances," Ms Meyer said.

"He's been fantastic, he's loved those girls."

Police had been called to reports of a dispute in White Street, Casterton, at around 8.30pm last night.

They returned at 9.40pm to find Raymond McCombe dead and two of his friends with serious stab wounds.

Twenty-five-year-old Toby Lynch, from Warrnambool, died while being flown to the Geelong Hospital.

A 28-year-old man was taken to the Hamilton Base Hospital in a stable condition.

It is believed the 31-year-old man charged over the incident was driven across the South Australian border by his mother to Mt Gambier Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

He was due to appear before Mt Gambier Magistrates Court this afternoon with Victorian detectives applying for his extradition.

It is understood the incident was triggered by a long-running dispute between the family of Raymond McCombe and the residents of the house where the stabbings took place.

As a matter of protocol, the investigation will be overseen by ethical standards detectives to ensure the police who responded to the first incident dealt with it correctly.
