'You're too stupid': Fisherman's confrontation with irate woman on dock

A fisherman has been blasted by an irate woman frustrated that he dropped a line in while she was feeding ducks some popcorn.

The confrontation unfolded at Ascot Waters, a marina in Perth, on Saturday and saw the unidentified woman becoming increasingly upset at the man, named Michael, as he fished from a dock.

In the heated debate, filmed by the fisherman, the lady accused him of dumping fish hooks in the waterway and creating a potentially fatal hazard for the local birdlife.

“What you’re doing is stupid because it’s a bird sanctuary,” she said, drawing on an instance two weeks beforehand where a hook had to be removed from the mouth of a pelican named Princess.

A young man seated next to the woman was shown staring blankly ahead, appearing noticeably uncomfortable over the dispute occurring beside him.

The woman’s anger escalated when Michael argued that while other fishermen may not clean up after themselves, he certainly did.

“Oh bulls***,” she replies, then rushes to the railing as she prepares to throw a handful of popcorn to the ducks swimming below.

“You lie. About looking after the environment and [yet] you’re standing there with a fishing rod in your hand,” she said.

When asked if she had studied marine biology, or had specialised knowledge to draw on, the woman became even more annoyed and took a step closer to the Michael’s face.

“I’ve got three degrees which is something you haven’t got and been teaching for 45 years. Shut up,” she barked at him.

Michael then asked why she assumed he didn’t have a similar level of expertise, and she replied with a similarly insulting response.

“Because you’re not old enough and you’re too stupid,” she said.

The woman eventually stormed off after Michael offered to dispose of a bait bag left behind by other fishermen which she had been was unable to reach while cleaning the area up.

After being shared to the Fishing Western Australia Facebook group, more than 180 people rallied behind Michael in support of his level-headedness in the face of the cranky woman.

“That’s too funny. you handled that well son,” one person wrote in a comment.

“Well handled mate excellent job,” someone else said.

Another argued the woman may have had a point, saying they knew the spot “very well” and while it was legal to fish on the other side of the path, fishing in the lake where Michael was, was actually illegal.

Michael maintained that he had personally been given the all-clear by “police, a ranger, and fisheries”.
