Young mum reveals how she was targeted by rock throwers

A young South Australian mum has revealed how people threw rocks at her car from an overpass and it’s sparked calls from locals for the behaviour to stop before someone is killed.

Lauren Mangelsdorf was driving on the Southern Expressway in broad daylight with her toddler in the car on Thursday when a number of rocks were thrown at her car.

One of them ricocheted off her bonnet sand smashed into her windscreen while she was travelling at about 100km/h.

Luckily, she and her boy escaped injury, but Ms Mangelsdorf is still horrified by what happened.

“I went through all the what ifs – what if it had have hit my windscreen?” she said.

“What if I had’ve swerved my vehicle? What if it’d come through the side where my son was sitting?”

The SA Opposition said CCTV cameras are long overdue.

SA Transport Minister Stephan Knoll said the government was weeks away from putting a number of measure in place including CCTV.

Locals believe the only way to stop rock throwing attacks is to fully enclose all bridges over the Southern Expressway, but they said it should never have gotten to this stage.

“It’s not just fun and games. It’s serious – someone will be seriously injured,” Ms Mangelsdorf said.
