Man shot dead by police after threatening officer with knife

A man has been shot and killed by police in Western Australia after allegedly threatening an officer with a knife.

Officers found the man, who was armed with a knife, early on Sunday in Wannanup, south of Perth, after responding to reports of a man acting suspiciously.

The man allegedly advanced towards an officer, ignoring repeated requests to drop the knife, before police tasered him. When he still failed to stop a firearm was discharged.

The officers administered CPR before the man was rushed to Peel Health campus where he later died.

Homicide squad and Internal Affairs are investigating the incident.
