Abandoned puppy covered in marker pen in 'sick' case of animal abuse
A helpless dog has been discovered covered in marker pen in a shocking case of animal abuse.
The puppy, a labrador mix, was found abandoned in a park in Chillicothe, in the US state of Ohio, with the words “FREE”, and “GOOD HOME ONLY” emblazoned across her white fur.
She was taken in to the animal welfare group Ross County Humane Society, where one employee took to Facebook to share her disbelief over the senseless markings.
“So I usually try to contain myself with my work life and with what I see every single day, but this just tops it off!” Brittany May wrote online on Friday.
“How are you going to dump your dog, and write FREE all over it in permanent marker! I just don’t get it!”
The post was quickly inundated with comments slamming the actions of the perpetrator.
“Human cruelty never ceases to shock me,” one user wrote.
“That is a sick human being,” another said.
Ms May and her colleagues have named the puppy Marvella, which means “Miracle”, US television station WJLA reported.
After an intense clean, Ms May confirmed most of the ink had been removed from Marvella’s fur. The society plans to have her up for adoption this week.
