ASX to rise as MPs return to parliament

Here’s Yahoo Finance’s Monday morning wrap:

ASX: The Australian share market looks set for an uplifting start following a strong performance on Wall Street overnight.

Wall Street: Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at record highs as Apple share prices saw a boost amid some positive US economic data, while the Dow also closed in the green.

AUD: The Aussie dollar is buying 71.6 US cents as of 7:41am AEST.

JobKeeper laws a priority: Federal politicians are returning to parliament for the first time in 10 weeks, with some appearing via video link. Their priority will be to pass JobKeeper 2.0 laws – more here.

Covid-19 for women: The pandemic has been boon for women in some unexpected ways – though it doesn’t come without its own struggles. Here’s how Covid-19 has helped women.

Future of Australia: Australia’s youth are calling for Prime Minister Scott Morrison to provide a “national youth guarantee” at the online Youth Futures Summit. He’ll be joined by the Labor and Greens leaders as well.

"We now have a perfect storm in the combination of the pandemic, the economic downturn and climate change and young people will be amongst the most seriously impacted by all three," said the National Youth Commissioner Sophie Johnston.

"There isn't a national youth plan going forward and this presents an opportunity for young people to join the table and help forge a plan for the future."
