Woolworths email to shoppers fuels Disney speculation

A Woolworths email to shoppers has fuelled speculation the supermarket giant will be releasing new Disney collectables to rival Coles’ immensely popular Little Shop craze.

A shopper shared a screenshot of an email she says she received from Woolworths announcing the new promotion to a select group of Woolworths Rewards members on Friday.

According to the email the Disney Words collection will feature 36 Disney and Pixar characters and is set to hit stores across Australia on February 27, with the retailer no doubt hoping to capitalise on Coles’ less-than-successful Stickeez follow-up to its Little Shop success.

The email also says special limited edition collector albums would also be available for Rewards members.

But the supermarket giant remains tight-lipped on its new promotion, with a spokesperson saying: “We will be announcing what our collectables will be tomorrow (Sunday).”

The speculation comes as cryptic Mickey Mouse-shaped cardboard cut-outs popping up at various Woolworths’ stores indicated a campaign was coming.

And the reaction seems overwhelmingly positive so far.

“I’m more excited for this then the Coles … I still have all the movie slides from their last Disney promotion,” one consumer wrote on Markdown Addicts Australia’s Facebook page.
