Woolworths customer frustrated by mysterious sign on deli

The customer noticed it was 'quite a regular occurrence' at their local store.

A Woolworths customer has expressed their frustration after spotting a sign on the deli at their local store.

A customer shared a picture of an orange notice stuck to the glass at the store in Kyneton, in Victoria's Macedon Ranges region, which they claim appears on a weekly basis.

The sign, which was spotted on January 19 about 5.30pm, informed customers the deli was not open for service.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances the deli is shut," the sign said.

"We apologise for any inconvenience."

The shopper who shared the photo of the notice was clearly irritated, saying it was "quite a regular occurrence".

"At least once a week. When are you guys going to sort your s**t out?" the customer questioned.

A Woolworths spokesperson commented on the photo, asking to know the date and time the customer noticed the sign informing customers of the closure.

The spokesperson added they had raised the issue with local management at the store.

In a statement to Yahoo News Australia, a Woolworths spokesperson said the issue was due to recent staff shortages at the store.

"We have unfortunately had to close the deli in our Kyneton store early on a few occasions," the spokesperson said.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers and we have passed this feedback on to our store operations team.

"In the event that the deli counter is closed, customers can still purchase similar products, such as chicken breast fillets and salmon, within our packed Fresh Convenience range located in-store."

Due to Kyneton being located in a country town, the closest Woolworths store is 40 minutes away in Kilmore, meaning it can be difficult for staff to be deployed across the supermarkets in the event of staff shortages.

It is also difficult to find other staff in the store to cover shifts in the deli as all workers at the deli counter undertake training to strictly adhere to food safety rules.
