Man's sinister theory behind break-in at mother's home

A Queensland man has shared a photo of a shocking break-in at his mother’s home – but in a surprising twist the thieves left empty-handed, leading him to believe there was a darker reason for the intrusion.

In a post to Facebook, the man wrote that his mum’s home on Paradise Road in Slacks Creek in southeast Queensland was broken into by brazen thieves about 3pm on Monday.

An accompanying photo shows a glass sliding door completely shattered with fragments of glass littering the floor.

The man believes the offenders were looking to steal his mother’s dog, but tragically the pet was killed just a few days earlier after being poisoned.

“They broke in through the back glass door and tried to ransack her house, but didn't find anything due to having her dog baited last week and dying on Friday,” he wrote in the post.

The post attracted dozens of comments with some offering up their own theories as to what had occurred.

One woman suggested the dog may have been poisoned to make it easier for the home to be burgled, while another theorised both attacks were orchestrated to scare the woman.

“Is it someone trying to drive her out of the house? There are certain groups that use tactics like this,” they wrote.

Many others labelled the criminals as “scum” and expressed sympathy for the man’s mother over the loss of her dog.

The man requested that anyone with information “please pass on details to police or myself as I'd very much like to have a chat with them”.

Police confirmed a report has been made and they are investigating the incident.
