Woman sent flying through the air in horrific hit-and-run

The shocking moment a driver hit a pedestrian at speed, then fled the scene, has been captured on CCTV.

A 40-year-old woman was left seriously injured as she was trying to cross Barkly Street in the Melbourne suburb of West Footscray.

She was clipped by a silver hatchback and sent flying through the air, but instead of stopping to help, the driver just sped off.

Luckily several residents heard the crash and came out to help, but they were unable to identify the driver.

Detectives are now appealing to the public for help to find the person driving – and for the culprit to make themselves know to police.

“I make an appeal to the driver of the motor vehicle,” Victoria Police Acting Senior Sergeant Dean Waters said.

“It would have been evident that this woman was struck,” he said.

As the victim recovers in hospital with several broken bones, detectives are hoping someone may recognise the vehicle from the footage and come forward.
