Woman 'put off her lunch' after disturbing find in Coles lettuce

A Perth woman has been left too disgusted to eat lunch after opening a bag of Coles lettuce and uncovering a rather disturbing find.

The customer shared a picture to Facebook on Friday afternoon of a packet of baby cos lettuce which she said appeared to have large pellets of poo sprinkled throughout its leaves.

“Just bought this baby cos yesterday and have found what looks like very large poop droppings right through the lettuce!” she wrote.

The substance was enough to put the shopper off her salad.

The woman said she picked up the lettuce on Thursday, and received a bit of a shock when she opened it up.

“I’m used to seeing little bits of dirt etc but never seen such big bits. Went right off my lunch,” she wrote.

The woman said she planned to return the produce to the supermarket the following day.

A Coles spokesperson told Yahoo New Australia it was likely soil particles in the lettuce leaves, rather than faeces, and the matter was being investigated.

“Coles takes the quality of all our products seriously and has spoken to the customer to follow up their concern.

“As always we encourage customers to return any item they’re not 100 per cent happy with to their nearest store for a full refund or replacement.”

The gross find came days after a surprised Melbourne dad claimed to have found a live cockroach in a bag of sliced bread purchased from Coles.
