Woman accused of faking cancer posts apology on Facebook

A woman who police allege faked having a terminal illness and convinced a family to take care of her for more than a month has written a public apology.

Kiley White, 26 allegedly led a family in the US to believe she had cancer, with her post on Facebook trying to explain her past actions.

“First and foremost, to those I have hurt – purposefully or not – from the absolute depth of my soul, I am sorry,” her lengthy post began.

“Words could never express just how many tears I have shed over knowing I contributed to the heartache of another human being. That was never my intent. Ever. “

Authorities said on Tuesday 26-year-old Kiley White was charged July 12 with theft by deception and harassment after staying with an Egg Harbor Township family for five weeks.

Linda Evans tells WCAU-TV her family cared for White and “every day was just like she has one more day to live”.

Detective Sergeant Cherie Burgan says White pretended to be other people during the investigation, including her own hospice nurse.

Police say White pulled a similar scheme in Pennsylvania, but she was never charged with a crime.

“It has been documented that White has used similar tactics on other occasions in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, but she has never been charged with a crime,” Det Sgt Burgan said.

“On each occasion, she has preyed on the sympathy and compassion of others, receiving services and goods from those victims whom she scammed.”

The 26-year-old said in her online post that every time she got caught up a web of lies, it was never to hurt anybody, harass anyone or steal anything.

She added some members of her family gave up on her years ago.

“I left Pittsburgh without a care in the world, forgetting how terribly that mess would affect my siblings and parents in their daily lives. Who wants to be related to the girl all over the news?” White said.

She added rather than facing hard truths and working on herself, she pushed it all down and “subconsciously started searching for a new family“.

White also wrote she believed there had to be something wrong with her for people to love her.

“The Evans family and I met and had an instant connection. I have weeks worth of texts from them telling me I am their angel, that I’ve taught them so much,” White claimed.

“I had found a family who wanted me, who loved me, who accepted me. So boy did I run with it.”

White said she knew she had done wrong and planned to get help.
