Why this passport photo is being mocked online

A passport has raised a few eyebrows after people noticed an unusual detail on it.

Brexit’s been passed and UK citizens can now get new passports.

The UK’s Home Office announced a return to blue-coloured passports which “will be re-introduced now the UK has left the EU, and will replace burgundy passports which were gradually rolled out from 1988”.

The home office also shared a video showing off the new passports on YouTube.

But inside the sleeve of the sample passport, people were quick to mock a specific detail. The photo for the woman, named Angela Zoe Smith, is of a person appearing to be in her 20s many people thought.

However, Ms Smith’s birthdate is listed as August 19, 1973. That would make Ms Smith 46 years old.

People on Twitter were amused by the passport.

“Totally possible to look that good at 47,” one woman tweeted sarcastically.

Another woman tweeted that as a 45-year-old: “I would like to think that photo is not far off”.

“We're all better looking too since Brexit. I can't be the only one who voted to look 20 years younger,” another woman tweeted.

Home secretary Priti Patel said in a statement the return to blue passports means they will be “entwined” with the UK’s national identity.

The new blue passports will be issued from April.

“I cannot wait to travel on one,” she said.
